The Shawshank Redemption

The long walk through the desert makes me glimpse a point that makes up a different horizon from all these past days. It is not a mirage. It is something real, although still distant. Something that will change my life in ways I still can’t imagine. I am not talking about hope for a better future, but about the certainty that this change will come shortly. It is a milestone so close that I can dare to put a date on it: It will be October 10.

How can I be so sure? Basically because my world has already begun to change. Something that happened months ago and did not manifest itself until just a few weeks ago. I can’t stop thinking about the story the movie “The Shawshank Redemption” tells us. The story of an innocent man in the hands of a perverse warden, who is stripped of his pride, his personality, his intelligence and even his dignity. It is an inspiring story, which teaches us that no man can take away the essence of another person, no matter how much power he believes he owns.

Sooner or later, with effort, perseverance, tenacity, hard work and a great capacity for sacrifice, any type of prisoner or condemned, any kind of person who has been deprived of their freedom or credit (which is basically the same thing) can overcome his situation and vindicate himself. I have very bad news for the warden of this prison and his henchmen.

If people much more relevant, upright and competent than the warden himself come from outside the walls to defend the prisoner’s honor, two things will happen.

The prisoner will recover his freedom and his lost dignity.

The warden will lose reputation, credibility, and possibly his sanity.

You can bet all of that will happen!
